💫 The Soul Behind the Book: “Widowhood: Pain, Transformation, and Hope”

Interview with Dr. Arturo José Sánchez Hernández
On the completion of his book: Widowhood:Pain, Transformation, and Hope"

🌿 1. Initial Motivation

—What inspired you to write about widowhood?
This book was born out of encounters with men and women who were going through one of life’s deepest sorrows — the loss of a partner. Throughout my professional practice, I have witnessed interrupted love stories, difficult silences, and journeys of reconstruction that deserved to be told with respect.
I also understand that path on a personal level. Having experienced widowhood myself allowed me to see others’ suffering with new eyes — not from theory, but from the empathy that only comes through lived experience.

—What led you to turn that understanding into a book?
I felt the need to offer a calm and compassionate guide — a voice that could accompany without imposing, that could explain without diminishing the depth of human feeling. I wanted people in grief to find a space where science and the soul could meet to bring healing.

💔 2. The Emotional Process

—What did you feel while writing this book?
A mix of respect, tenderness, and commitment. Every word was chosen carefully, knowing it would reach hearts in pain. I didn’t write from sadness, but from hope — the hope of helping others transform pain into understanding.

—Were there moments when writing became difficult?
Yes, because writing about loss is never easy. Yet each page reminded me that when love has been genuine, even absence can teach us something precious about life.

—What did you learn about yourself during this process?
I learned that professional knowledge takes on its truest meaning when it serves compassion. And that human experience, no matter how painful, can become a tool for better supporting others.

🕊 3. The Professional and the Human Perspective

—As a psychiatrist, what surprised you most when exploring widowhood in depth?
I was struck by the resilience that emerges even in the midst of suffering. Many people believe they will never stand up again, and yet, over time, they find a new way of living — more aware, more authentic.

—How do you balance empathy and scientific rigor?
Both are essential. Science provides the framework for understanding mental and emotional processes, but empathy allows us to see beyond the symptoms. In supporting someone through grief, listening is often more therapeutic than speaking.

—What would you like readers to better understand about the grieving process?
That grief is not an illness to be “cured,” but a journey that must be walked with patience. Pain isn’t overcome by denying it, but by understanding it. With proper support, it can lead to a new stage of personal growth.

🌅 4. Transformation and Hope

—Why do you believe widowhood can become a path of transformation?
Because love, even when physically lost, continues to have creative power. Widowhood can become a turning point — an opportunity to reconnect with oneself and to rediscover meaning in life.

—What central message would you like to leave readers with?
That grief does not destroy love — it purifies it. And even when the road seems long, life retains the ability to bloom again.

—Is there a phrase that captures the essence of the book?
“Love that survives loss becomes a quiet energy that keeps us moving forward.”

📖 5. Behind the Book

—How long did it take you to complete the book, and what was the creative process like?
It was a slow, reflective process — written between long workdays, clinical sessions, and necessary silences. Each chapter took shape as I cared for my patients and reflected on their stories. In many ways, they were my teachers.

—What role did your blog Mental Health in the Heart of Maun play?
A fundamental one. It became the place where I first shared reflections that later evolved into chapters. The readers’ responses confirmed that this subject needed to be explored with greater depth and sensitivity.

💫 6. Vision and Future

—What impact do you hope this book will have on readers who are grieving?
I hope they feel accompanied, understood, and strengthened. I want them to realize they are not alone — that healing is possible. If this book manages to bring even a little comfort to someone in pain, it will have fulfilled its purpose.

—What new projects are you planning next?
I’ll continue writing about themes that touch the human soul — resilience, purpose, faith, and human connection. Each new book is another way to serve and share hope.

—If you could summarize the essence of Widowhood: Pain, Transformation, and Hope in one sentence, what would it be?
“Widowhood is a wound that teaches — an opportunity to discover that love, when it is true, never dies.”
