🌿✨ What Is Albinism? Understanding the Condition at Its Core ✨🌿

Albinism is a rare genetic condition present from birth. Although often surrounded by myths, it is simply a particularity of the body related to the production of a pigment called melanin.

🔎 Simple and Clear Definition
People with albinism have little or no melanin in their skin, hair, and eyes.
Melanin is the pigment that gives color to our body, protects the skin from the sun, and helps the eyes function properly.

When the body doesn’t produce enough melanin, certain common characteristics of albinism appear:
🔹 Very light skin.
🔹 White or very light blond hair.
🔹 Light-colored eyes (sometimes bluish, grayish, or even reddish depending on the lighting).
🔹 Increased sensitivity to sunlight and certain visual problems.

👉 It’s important to remember:
Albinism does not affect intelligence, learning ability, or personality.

🧬 How Does It Occur? A Basic Genetic Explanation
Albinism occurs due to a change (mutation) in certain genes involved in melanin production.
We inherit these genes from our parents. When both parents pass on a mutated copy of the gene, the child may be born with albinism.

This pattern of inheritance is called autosomal recessive.
🔹 People may carry the gene without having albinism themselves.
🔹 Only when both parents are carriers is there a chance the child will have the condition.

👉 It is a completely natural genetic phenomenon and is not caused by anything the parents did or by external factors during pregnancy.

💡 Understanding albinism through clear information is the first step to eliminating prejudice and building a more inclusive society.

🌿 Final Considerations 🌿

Albinism is neither a source of shame nor a mysterious condition. It is simply a particularity of human genetics. The more we know about it, the more we can move toward a society that values people for their abilities, not for physical differences.

Education, awareness, and speaking the truth are the first steps toward promoting respect, empathy, and inclusion.
